Abstract
This data set contains vertical profiles of ocean temperature, salinity, turbulence dissipation rates and bio-optical properties, obtained from the sea ice in the western Weddell Sea during an expedition with the research icebreaker RV Polarstern, February to April 2026. Data were obtained with a battery powered, internal recording free-falling VMP250-IR (Rockland Scientific Inc., VMP hereafter), deployed at helicopter stations and ice stations from the ship, down to depths of either 300~m or 500~m.
