Abstract
The data file includes the results of the carbonyl sulfide (COS), methyl chloride (CH3Cl), and methyl bromide (CH3Br) measurements from the SPC14 ice core drilled at the South Pole as part of the SPICEcore project. There are a total of 425 measurements. The file is an Excel worksheet saved in .xlsx format. The are seven columns: depth (m), COS (ppt), err (ppt), CH3Cl (ppt), err (ppt), CH3Br (ppt), err (ppt). The depth column is the mid-depth of the samples calculated from top and bottom depth measurements conducted during the CPL. All measurements are reported as dry molar mixing ratios in parts per trillion (ppt). The err column after the data for each compound is the plus/minus 1 sigma uncertainty estimate in ppt’s and it is the cumulative uncertainty based on the precision of the analytical measurement plus the uncertainty that arises from the variability in the background (blank) trace gas levels in the ice core extraction system. The background trace gas levels in the ice core gas extraction and the analytical systems are determined by regularly conducting nitrogen (N2) blanks. Please refer to Aydin et al. [JGR doi:10.1029/2006JD008027, 2007] for details of the measurement methods and the calibration practices. A few instances of missing data are denoted by -999. Contact with the PI encouraged before data usage.
